ANNOUNCEMENTS

Shakespeare Festival

The 8th grade students participated in the Artists in Residency program with the Maryland Shakespeare festival.  This is made possible through support from the Maryland Arts council and the HCMS PTA.  Student groups will showcase their work at the HCMS Enrichment Fair on May 22nd.

MSA TESTING AT HCMS

Kudos to our student body for achieving 97.47% attendance during the four days of MSA testing.  As you know, this means the students and staff enjoyed a school wide pizza party to celebrate.
We are encouraging students to continue this excellent dedication to their attendance and schoolwork.  It will serve them well as they continue their education here at Harper's Choice, in high school, and college.

WHAT'S NEW

Five NASA engineers took over two of Nancy Prendergastís science classes last Wednesday, to talk about their education and career paths, and to lead students through a hands-on engineering activity.

Working in small groups, the Harper's Choice Middle School eighth graders drew up plans and created miniature cars using a few household items, including styrofoam, straws, coffee stirrers, tape, and a balloon.  The aim was to create a vehicle that would move forward in reaction to the air escaping the attached inflated balloon.

The engineers visited Harper's Choice in celebration of Black History Month and National Engineers Week (Feb. 18-22).  The goal of NASA's program is to showcase its engineers and inspire students to pursue STEM (science, technology, mathematics and engineering) careers.
